Gusty conditions in a cold Nor-easter made the going tough with windspeeds that ranged from 25 knots to 5 knots. Archie Hainsworth dominated the day, winning every Sports race comfortably, however behind him there was incredibly close racing with Will Caiger, Matt Smith, James Oakley and Oscar Cubitt, swapping places up the beats, down wind and even on the finish line. After 5 races, just 3 points separated 2nd and 5th place. 2nd place went to Will and 3rd to Matt. The Pro fleet saw very close tactical racing, but in the end the locals pipped the visitors, Sam Doble-Thompson winning the Pro fleet from Matthew Caiger, and Bethan Matthews taking 3rd from Lucy Greenwood - both girls sailing the Pro sail for the 1st time. Finally after lunch the wind had dropped slightly and the Reefer fleet hit the water (with at least 2 reefs in the sail) for two races. Andreas Purse led the fleet followed by Jack Oakley with the whole fleet achieving a least one lap. However, some of the Reefer fleet were doing so well, they were mistaken for the main Sports fleet, notably Max King. Please do let me have your photos as for once the fleets were sailing as close to the shore as possible to get out of the tide. ![]() Keen to support the growing Tera fleet in the East, Royal Harwich Yacht Club kindly hosted their 1st Tera open event and what a fantastic welcome we had! With all three Eastern coaches on hand, this proved to be a great start to the open season. Our sailors had to deal with the tide, strong winds and very flukey wind changes. There was some very close racing. Pros and Sports shared a start which gave some very interesting racing in the strong afternoon winds. Archie had a storming day not just dominating the Sport fleet but in the afternoon led both the Sport and Pro fleet home. Oscar and James O swapped places behind him with Oscar beating James in the final race to take 2nd overall, with James 3rd. In the Pro fleet, Sam and Sydney both had a great day of sailing with Sam taking 1st. Full results are available here Craig and Hobie were on hand to coach the whole fleet and saw huge improvements over the day. Special mention from Craig went to Josie for some great sailing and Natasha for some real improvement. Officer of the Day, Graham loved how much Archie and Oscar smiled whilst they were out on the water. Apprehensive about racing with the fleet, James D choose to be responsible for the hooter on the committee boat. However, having met the friendly fleet, he is now looking forward to taking part in the next Train & Race at Aldeburgh. This was the 1st event of the Eastern Traveller Series. Coach Mike has put a buddying system in place. The 'buddy pair' results are as follows: 1st - Oscar / Charlie (8) 2nd - Sam / Natasha (9) 3rd - Tristan / Issy (11) 4th - Archie / Harvey (12) 5th - Matt / Josie (16) 6th - Lucy / Oliver (22) & Dom / Max (22) Finally, thanks to Royal Harwich for a great day. Many of the sailors are looking forward to returning in Royal Harwich Junior Week in August and the next Tera Open in 2014!
